  • Description: I am a fresh graduate of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science, UPB. As a young software engineer I am interested in learning new technologies and developing my skills. I am a person full of energy, and I try to channel it in order to obtain the best results (unfortunately all that energy is spent at work lol). In this team I will be the backend developer. This position suits me, because even as I have no clue about backend technologies, I once created an entire site (that could take various requests from clients and process them) using only shell scripting. I am quite sure I will be up to the task at hand. I am also a very honest person.

Idea

The Main Problem

The issue the platform intends to solve is based on the “cumbersome” adaptation students face in the academic environment, who haven't enough resources and available information in an easy way. Reducing feelings of homesickness may be difficult for some but may be accomplished by remaining on campus during the week and on weekends. This may help students to get to know their campus and become more involved in athletic and social events. Students learn more about campus resources and make friends with other students, with whom they may find common ground.

When we do not get to know and spend time with classmates, professors and other academic advisors, we lack support and a place to go for ideas and answers when a problem does arise.

Our Solution

This may help students to get to know their campus and become more involved in athletic and social events. Students learn more about campus resources and make friends with other students, with whom they may find common ground. Stay in touch with those back home through phone, mail and email but force yourself to become part of the culture within your new academic world.

Practical experience and internship opportunities should always be taken advantage of, in order to provide maximum networking opportunities for students.

Among other facilities that the platform intends to offer we can list the facility to purchase books offered by a senior person, reviews through which students can get advice on various courses and teachers.

Why FlyCampus

The proposed platform incorporates all of the above-mentioned facilities, made available to students and teachers, and attempts to integrate, unify everything into a single easy-to-use and navigable interface. It is more desirable to extend this platform to cover the needs of social networking (intranet, educational campus) in which interaction between student and teacher or between students is allowed. Among other things, it is trying to increase the efficiency of a modern online-oriented educational model by developing essential components such as the selling / buying book, student lifestyle, tracking careers / jobs and interships for students, and a video content system - upload video materials, webstreaming and recording capabilities in lessons and lecturers in an easy-to-use way.

Who can use FlyCampus

The FlyCampus is an projected that is intended to be used by educational centers, like Universities, Colleges, Schools. Ultimately the end users are the students attending to their respective institution.

Competition

We have identified several platforms that may offer similar content, such as:

Key metrics

  • the cost of production, including site maintenance
  • the number of unique site visitors each week - we want to measure if people become interested in this kind of shop application
  • the average number of times a user visits our site each week
  • increasing number of clients

Cost structure

The cost structure consists in the cost of:

  • hosting infrastructure
  • development for our web application
  • database and server maintenance
  • taxes and related legal costs
  • cover employees needs

Revenue streams

The platform can be hosted in the Cloud environment and the customer can benefit from this service by paying only an annual subscription calculated according to the number of (sub-students, students, teachers, etc.) The platform can be installed on premises (for those with stricter anti-Cloud privacy policies) and a one-time fee is paid, followed by a monthly subscription for platform administration / maintenance in case of subscription closure the platform remains in the custody of the client but becomes limited - it will no longer have access to certain features.

User Persona

Our persona is called Morty, and he is a college student. He is living in the campus, and like most youngsters he is rather bad at organizing his life. Morty likes to go on adventures with his friend (Rick). As a student, what he lacks most is time. Also the college can sometimes prove pretty difficult, and the teachers can be exigent as well. Because of various reasons (totally not Rick), Morty sometimes has to skip classes. Yet, he does not want to miss anything, so he is trying to study alone. His main problem is that he does not always have the resources needed for that: not all courses have a digital format version, and he has to rely on notes from his colleagues. Furthermore Morty does not always write down everything important in a class, thinking he will remember in 4 months, for the final examination. He would like to have a way to be able to study alone and have access to all the information that was presented in class. If he could access that information easily (without stealing Rick's portal gun), he would both save some time and also increase his grades.

Demographic Data
  • age 12 - 25 years
  • occupation: student (college or high school)
Problems
  • lack of time
  • lack of documentation for classes in digital format
Needs
  • increase grades
  • better time management
  • improve overall academic performance
